Having been sick for the better part of 2 weeks now, I’ve had time to sit and think about my condition and how to make things a little easier on myself. Like I suspect a lot of people do when they’re sick, I’ve spent many a torturous hour sprawled out on the sofa with a box of tissues and a compress, looking for some blessed distraction in HGTV re-runs.
It’s given me time to think about one of my favorite solutions that I like to add to my kitchen designs… a “morning center”. How does this relate, you ask. Well, one of the most important features I like to include in my “morning center” is a place for vitamins and medications. I know traditional wisdom is to leave this in the bathroom. But for me it makes more sense to have it in the kitchen. This is where we prepare breakfast and coffee and get the kids’ lunches packed… where we perform our morning rituals. So why not add our medications and vitamins to this routine. I think apothecary drawers do a great job of this. Since our kitchen is so small, I personally keep our family medications neatly divided into bins in our pantry… even our dogs have have one! We can grab our individual bins, bring them to the counter, grab a glass of juice and be on our way. It makes the task easier and faster, which we can all use a little more of in the morning rush. And on days like today where the upstairs medicine cabinet seems like a million mile march, it helps to have my bin and my water bottles just a few steps away!
